Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has indicated that his club made inquiries about recruiting Jurgen Klopp as manager.
Hummels knows Klopp well with the two having worked together at Borussia Dortmund. Klopp enjoyed a successful seven year stint with Dortmund during which he won two Bundesliga titles and guided the team to the final of the 2013 Champions League title where they lost to Munich.
Munich are currently without a manager after they sacked Carlo Ancelotti following their 3-0 Champions League defeat against PSG.
Klopp has been touted as a possible successor to the Italian however it will be hard to see the current Liverpool boss taking up an offer at this point in time considering that many fans of the Reds will consider it to be a betrayal.
Hummels nonetheless confirmed that his club have asked him about Klopp.
He said, “I’m following JurgenKlopp really closely because of the seven years we had when he coached me at Borussia Dortmund, I was really happy when he had a good start this year, but right now it looks a little tough for him and the club.
“Regarding Munich, they talked to me and asked me something [about Klopp] and I said my opinion.”
