Joe Hart admits that his place for England is under threat

West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart has revealed that he is aware that he faces strong competition for the England first choice goalkeeping position ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Since being frozen out of Manchester City’s first team plans prior to last season by Pep Guardiola, Hart has been largely criticized for his performances with some saying that he should be dropped as first choice for England and replaced by either Jack Butland, Fraser Forster, Tom Heaton or Jordan Pickford.

The 30 year old started the season on poor note for West Ham whom he joined on a season long loan from City during the summer. However his performances have improved during recent times.

He has now revealed that he is aware that he faces a tough battle to keep his position within Gareth Southgate’s team, saying, “For him to say that was a great plus for me, but I understand he was probably fed up with questions about it and maybe felt he had to be definitive with what he was doing.

“But I will not read too much into it or be resting or relying on that. I have got some fantastic competition. And I say fantastic because I really enjoy it and enjoy the standard of goalkeeping at the moment, especially with England and with the Premier League.”
