Liverpool attacker handed prestigious award

Liverpool starlet Ben Woodburn has been named as Welsh young player of the year.

The 17-year-old Woodburn made his national team debut last month in a World Cup qualifier against Austria and scored before setting up the opening goal for his country against Moldova three days later.

Woodburn was introduced to the Liverpool first team last season and went on to score one goal from nine appearances in all competitions.

He became the Reds youngest ever goal scorer when he netted against Leeds in an EFL Cup quarter final encounter at the age of 17 years and 45 days. In the process, he bettered Michael Owen’s record by 98 days.

Woodburn has been viewed as a future successor to Gareth Bale as the face of Welsh football.

He will be looking to gain more experience with the Liverpool first team this season and possibly establish himself within Jurgen Klopp’s future plans.
