Ferdinand explains how Liverpool pulled off a miracle this summer

Former Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand has said that Liverpool pulled off a miracle by keeping Philippe Coutinho during the summer.

Following the departure of Neymar to PSG, Spanish giants Barcelona had earmarked the Brazilian Coutinho as a priority target and made numerous bids for him all of which were rejected by the Reds.

The 25-year-old playmaker was keen on moving to the Catalan giants and handed in a transfer request to the Merseyside club. He also missed the club’s first couple of matches of the season an only made his first Premier League start this weekend when the Reds defeated Leicester City.

Ferdinand has now said about the Coutinho situation, “Liverpool have produced a miracle in keeping him, considering what was on offer in terms of his fee, and the personal terms we see in the media.

“He could have gone to a club to play alongside [Lionel] Messi and [Luis] Suarez, and Liverpool have pulled off nothing short of a miracle.

“He creates moments that inspire not a team, but whole stadiums, and he does things which take your breath away.”
