Gareth Barry explains why Everton boss Koeman was not happy this summer

Gareth Barry has revealed that Everton manager Ronald Koeman was not happy when he asked to leave the Merseyside club this summer.

The 36-year-old Barry opted to join West Brom this summer as he wanted to continue playing regular first team football, something which he would have been unlikely to have received with the Toffees this season.

He is likely to make his 633rd Premier League appearance and break Ryan Giggs’ record when the Baggies face off against Arsenal on Monday.

Whilst talking about leaving Everton, Barry said, “He (Koeman) wasn’t happy with me, he wanted me to stay around and felt I was going to get enough game time which I possibly might have done with European football and the cups.”

Barry has so far played four out of five of West Brom’s Premier League matches this season and is expected to be a key player for the side this season.
