Arsenal legend Paul Merson defends Everton

Paul Merson has revealed that he feels that Everton played better than the score line of their 4-0 defeat to Manchester United last week reflected.

The loss marked the Toffees fourth defeat in a row and continued to pile the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman.

As United scored three goals in ten minutes, Merson believed that the Merseyside club played better than the score of the game reflected.

He said, “I thought Everton were bang unlucky for 20 minutes at the start of the second half at Old Trafford.

“In the end United produced a flurry of late goals, like they did against Swansea, and the score looked much better than the game suggested.”

The Toffees will be looking to bounce back to winning ways this weekend when they take on Bournemouth.

The Cherries have also started the season on poor form and this will be a battle between two sides looking to gain confidence.
