Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has revealed that Arsenal tried to sign him during his time at Anfield.
The 31-year-old Enrique left Liverpool in 2016 and announced his retirement from football this summer due to knee problems. He had played for Real Zaragoza last season.
The Spanish international Enrique joined the Reds from Newcastle in 2011 and went on to make 99 appearances for the club.
He however failed to earn regular first team football under Brendan Rodgers. Once Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club, Enrique also failed to work his way back into first team contention.
When supporters asked if Arsenal had ever tried to sign him, Enrique has now responded confirming that the Gunners had made two approaches for him saying, “Thanks a lot for your message.
“Yes they did mate the same summer I went to liverpool and when I played for liverpool too. Twice they did.”
