Liverpool legend Heskey assesses Jurgen Klopp’s performance in the window

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has said that Jurgen Klopp did the right things for the Reds during the transfer window.

During the summer, the Reds managed to bring in the likes of Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. They also managed to sign RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, though he will only join the club next summer.

Despite making some impressive signings, the Reds failed to add a World class defender to their side and missed out on the signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Their defensive fragilities have been exposed this season, particularly during their opening day 3-3 draw against Watford as well as during their 5-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City this weekend.

Despite the debacle, Heskey believes that Klopp should be trusted and told the Liverpool Echo, “You always want the club to keep buying players to improve all the time. He is doing that, but it’s a journey not a sprint.

“You have got to understand people just want them to go and buy, but you can’t just buy all the time. I think he is doing it the right way and taking his time with it.”
