Liverpool boss Klopp slams referee for Mane decision

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blasted referee Jon Moss for his decision to award Sadio Mane with a red card during his sides 5-0 drubbing against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Premier League player of the month Mane was given his marching orders during the first half following a collision with City goalkeeper Ederson. After a lengthy stoppage, Ederson had to be replaced by Claudio Bravo.

Though Ederson had to be taken to hospital after the tackle, Klopp believes that the referee was wrong to award Mane a red-card as he was not intentionally trying to hurt the player.

He said, “We had all we needed at 11v11. We had chances. The first goal is unnecessary, we were too laid back, not too smart.

“But the decisive decision in the whole game was the red card. I don’t think it was a red card, Sadio didn’t see the goalkeeper. It’s unlucky, an accident. The keeper comes out. You want to go for the ball. I hope people see it for what it is.

For Liverpool the loss of Mane will be a big blow as he is a key player for their team and is now likely to be banned for the majority of September.
