Southampton handed a huge boost ahead of Watford clash

Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk has reportedly been welcomed back into the Southampton squad. The Dutch international was strongly linked with a move to the Reds during the summer and even went on to hand in a transfer request to the Saints.

Southampton however insisted that they would not sell and in the end they ended up living up to their words

Negotiations between the two clubs were complicated after Liverpool were forced to apologize to the Saints after being found guilty of making an improper approach for van Dijk.

Van Dijk did not play in Southampton’s first three games of the season as he had hoped that a move could go ahead but he will have to stay put till January.

As a huge boost, Saints manager Manuel Pellegrino has now confirmed that the player has returned to training for his side and said, “Now he is training with the team again. It depends on the player now.

“We know he is coming from a long period of time without playing, he needs to train and to play games, but we will decide in the future. The best thing in football is that you have to show on the pitch how you are, but now everything is normal, and this is good news for us.”
