Liverpool dismiss Barcelona’s claims about Philippe Coutinho

According to reports, Liverpool have dismissed the claims of Barcelona that there is a £183 million price tag on Philippe Coutinho.

The Spanish giants tried hard to sign the Brazilian this summer and made three bids, the last of which was £118 million. All bids were rejected by Jurgen Klopp’s side and the Reds remained adamant that they would not sell.

The Catalan giants had been looking to sign Coutinho in order to bolster their attack following the departure of Neymar after he linked up with PSG. They also chased Ousmane Dembele and managed to recruit from German club Borussia Dortmund.

On Saturday, Barcelona Sporting Director Albert Soller confirmed that the club did make a final bid for Coutinho, which came on transfer deadline day, but revealed that Liverpool’s asking price was too high.

He said, “Yesterday, at the end of the day, and after many weeks of dealing with them, Liverpool put a price on a player that we were interested in. They asked for 200 million euros (£183 million). Logically after indications the club had given, we decided not to go ahead.”
