Newcastle United failed to make any new signings on transfer deadline day and this could mean that Rafa Benitez’s long-term future at the club is in serious doubt.
The Spaniard did publicly reveal his frustration at the Magpies board this summer for failing to grant him sufficient capital to invest in new talent.
Benitez managed to cut the wage bill at the club through selling Grant Hanley to Norwich and Achraf Lazaar to Benevento as well as loaning Tim Krul to Brighton.
Despite this, no new signings arrived at St James Park and this will surely be frustrating to Benitez, who has been linked with a possible move to West Ham should Slaven Bilic end up getting sacked.
The Magpies were hoping to strengthen their side on deadline day and saw proposed loan moves for the likes of Lucas Perez from Arsenal, Southampton’s Matt Targett and Kenedy from Chelsea fall through.
