Stoke star makes interesting claim on why Giroud snubbed Everton

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has claimed that Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud had wanted to join Everton but it was the player’s wife who objected to a move.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has been searching for an experienced striker this summer after Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United.

He had been linked with a move for the French international Giroud, who could be set to receive limited playing time at the Gunners this season following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was also said to be keen on selling the 30-year-old Giroud, though the player eventually came out and said that he would like to remain at the Emirates to try to fight for a place in the team.

Adam has now come out and suggested that Giroud opted to stay because of his partner by saying, “I heard his partner refused the deal. The deal was nearly done, he wanted to come, but I heard it was his girlfriend or wife that turned it down.”
