Barcelona chief confirms talks to sign Liverpool attacker

Barcelona Sporting director Robert Fernandez indicated on Monday that he is negotiating with Liverpool over a deal to sign Philippe Coutinho and is hoping to complete a deal before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Fernandez said when asked about the possibility of his team signing Coutinho, “It’s true we are in negotiations over a player to try and sign them. We hope to reach a deal and present a new player,”

The Catalan giants have managed to lure Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund and are hoping to sign at least two more players before transfer deadline day.

Though Liverpool were initially reluctant to sell Coutinho as he played a big part of their team last season, they may at the end have no choice but to sell.

The Brazilian has handed in a transfer request to the club and has not featured at all for the team this season, which indicates that there is probably tension between him and the Merseyside club.
