Newcastle United star says he does not care about Souness’ criticism

Newcastle United’s Mikel Merino has said that he has paid no attention to the criticism which he has received from Graeme Souness

Souness referred to Merino has being “weak” after he failed to stop Aaron Mooy, who went on to score a winner for Huddersfield for the Magpies two weeks ago.

The Spanish international Merrino was on top form this weekend though, as he helped his club claim a convincing 3-0 victory against West Ham. When asked about the comments made by Souness, Merrino said, “I heard something, but I don’t really give importance to it.”

Merrino could turn out to be one of the exciting players for the Magpies this season and Benitez has even compared him to Spain 2010 World Cup winner Xabi Alonso.

For Rafa Benitez’s side, this was a much needed three points and confidence boost, considering that they had lost their previous two Premier League games in succession.
