Sunderland reportedly in the race to sign prolific 94-goal striker

According to reports, Sunderland are set to compete with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race to sign prolific Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes.

The 27-year-old Rhodes helped Wednesday secure a fourth place finish in the Championship last season.

This season however, he has only started two of the clubs five League matches and failed to score a goal. This situation would no doubt have alerted other clubs.

The Black Cats started the season solidly though they are currently on a run of poor form following defeats to Leeds United and Barnsley.

Simon Grayson’s side have also proven so far to be heavily reliant on Lewis Grabban, which further highlights their need to land another striker.

There are not many players with a Championship record which is as prolific as that of Rhodes. He boasts 94 goals in the second tier of English football from 211 games and his experience could be useful to any club.
