Sunderland skipper has said that the Black Cats lack “quality, discipline and attitude”

Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole has claimed that his side lacked “quality, discipline and attitude” after they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Barnsley this weekend.

For the Black Cats, the defeat was further compounded by the fact that fans jeered them during half-time as well as after the final whistle.

The Fans also went on to express their frustration at the club for not investing sufficiently in new talent this summer by chanting, “Are you watching Ellis Short?”

Though Sunderland were arguably the better side for the first 25-30 minutes of the game, they did not really threaten and were dominated afterwards.

Cattermole has now said after the game, “It was very frustrating. We probably conceded against the run of play and then we weren’t strong enough mentally or physically to cope with what Barnsley threw at us after that.

“For the first 20 or 30 minutes I thought we were the better side. We should have punished them, we should have gone in front but we didn’t have the quality to go and take the lead.”
