Liverpool are said to be ready to start a bidding war with Chelsea for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Manager Arsene Wenger wants the English national to extend his contract with the Gunners as he expects the pacey winger to become a great player both for club and country.
Arsenal offered a new contract worth £125k/week just last week which was rejected by Chamberlain.
Several reports now claim the north London club quickly followed up with an improved contract worth £180k/week but Oxlade Chamberlain has already set his mind on a move away from the Gunners.
Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to pounce as Arsenal are willing to let Chamberlain leave if their valuation of the player is met.
Chelsea had already enquired about Oxlade’s availability and are believed to have now bid £40 million to acquire the 24-year-old. services.
The former Southampton man has admitted he would like to be deployed in a central midfield position which alone might be the only motive behind his desired move away from Arsenal.
With Chelsea already boasting a strong central midfield line up with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko all fighting for a place in the starting, Jurgen Klopp might be in pole position to land his third summer transfer.
