Newcastle United reportedly plotting a move for prolific 29-year-old striker

Slimani

After having given up on apparent attempts to sign big man strikers like Bas Dost and Andy Carroll in the past few weeks, it looks like Rafa Benitez’s side have turned to another target.

According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle are set to chase after Leicester City striker Islam Slimani in a bid to find a striker that you can actually find on the pitch come the weekend.

The Algerian international signed for big money for the Foxes last season, and he showed some promise but it faded.

With the side playing better, Craig Shakespeare has chosen to stick with Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy, so chances are getting to be few and far between.

In addition, the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho has only compounded things, and it doesn’t look like Slimani is the ‘type’ needed there any longer- especially given how much he’s worth.

That’s why a deal with Newcastle could be good for both parties. The Magpies desperately need a striker that gives them some sort of threat, and Slimani offers a real presence in the box. This could be something to help lift the mood just a little at St. James’ Park.
