Liverpool reportedly want former Golden Boy as alternative to Naby Keita

According to German publication Kicker (via Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keen on bringing Bayern Munich box-to-box midfielder Renato Sanches to Anfield before the window shuts.

Reportedly, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp reckons the Portuguese international could fit into the plans he earlier had for RB Leipzig midfielder and top target Naby Keita in his squad.

Sanches arrived the Allianz Arena last summer for an initial £27.5million, but 17 games later, the 20-year-old has failed to reproduce the displays that earned him the move from Benfica.

It’s believed Bayern could be more open to a loan move as opposed to a permanent sale, but if Klopp would be keen on such temporary deal looks highly unlikely.

The powerful midfielder has a lot of potential no doubt, and is still expected to breakthrough in a top 5 league following his shockingly poor maiden campaign in the Bundesliga.

Were Sanches to move to the Premier League with Liverpool, the Euros 2016 winner and Golden Boy could start from the scratch again, develop into the top quality expected of him and help the club with his superb footballing abilities.

However, it doesn’t appear like a move is possible financially, especially if reports that AC Milan got a £45million bid for the Portuguese knocked back are true.

A loan is also potentially wide of the mark as it just doesn’t seem possible that Liverpool would love to painstakingly further develop Sanches by giving him enough playing time only to return him to the Germans.

On the surface, this is equally as hard a deal to seal like Keita’s failed move, and with Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho both set to remain with Liverpool this season, there appears to be no need for any midfield additions at Anfield at the moment.
