Aston Villa reportedly miss out on the signing of Premier League striker

According to reports, Birmingham City are set to beat Aston Villa in the race to sign Southampton striker Sam Gallagher on a season long loan deal.

The 21-year-old Gallagher has attracted interest from a number of clubs after notching 12 goals from 47 appearances while on loan with Blackburn Rovers last season.

Villa are looking to recruit a new forward and manager Steve Bruce did admit on Friday that he is interested in signing Gallagher. It now looks like veteran boss Harry Redknapp has beaten him though.

Should Gallagher end up joining City, he will likely be joined by Arsenal duo Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall.

Gallagher does not look to be part of Southampton’s plans for the time being and he will certainly need to improve upon the amount of goals that he scores if he wishes to one day play in the Premier League. He is still young though and has time to develop.
