As per Spanish paper AS, Liverpool are keen on Atletico Madrid teenage forward Victor Mollejo, and they have already tabled an important offer; one which the La Liga side knocked back.
The 16-year-old striker made his senior team bow during weekend’s friendly against Leganes, and is expected to feature every once in a while for Diego Simeone’s side this term.
Mollejo is said to be the next best thing to have emerged from within Atletico’s youth ranks, and he has already been compared with a young Fernando Torres.
It appears the teenage sensation is keen to follow in the footsteps of the former Liverpool goalmachine, as he also adorned the number 35 jersey El Nino wore when he made his first debut back in 2001. Coincidence?
The Spain under-16 international scored 30 goals for Atletico’s youth sides last term, and it’s why Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, alongside Chelsea and Manchester City desires him.
Understandably, the Madrid club aren’t willing to let Mollejo leave, though their transfer ban is far from being a primary reason.
Liverpool are currently banned from registering youth players, but only ones from other English clubs.
Either ways, there is no chance that the Anfield club would get their hands on one of Spain’s most promising striking prodigies this summer, but perhaps, something could come up in the not-too-distant future.
