This Tuesday, August 8, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) Cardiff City will host Portsmouth at the Cardiff City Stadium for a match in the first round of the EFL Cup. Both teams have solid squads that should give a good fight to advance to the next round of the EFL Cup.
Cardiff City had a disappointing 16-17 campaign in the Championship, finishing 12th and will look to massively improve that mark in this new season.
Neil Warnock has a very talented side, keeping ahold of Sean Morrison and Kenneth Zohore along with the additions of players like Callum Patterson and Danny Ward could make the Welsh side very formidable in the Championship and in this EFL Cup. The Bluebirds started off the Championship season with a 1-0 away win against Burton and will look to shine in the first competitive game at home this season.
Portsmouth had a spectacular 16-17 season, topping League Two, achieving promotion to League One. Pompey is in a transitional phase, former manager Paul Cook joining Wigan Athletic and former Rotherham and Wolves boss Kenny Jackett now at the helm at Fratton Park.
Jackett led Portsmouth to an impressive 2-0 win against Rochdale at Fratton Park in the first matchday of the English League One. This game should be a challenging task for Portsmouth but it is a game that can go either way even at Cardiff City Stadium.
