Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld has admitted that his club have made no progress over extending his contract.
The Belgian international Alderweireld has managed to establish himself as one of the most respected defenders in world football in recent years and Spurs will need to reward him with a new deal should -they wish to retain his services for the long-term.
When asked about whether his contract would be extended soon though, Alderweireld said, “No news that I know of so nothing… zero.”
A release clause of £25 million could also become active should they fail to reward the Belgian international with a new deal 12 months before his current deal expires.
Since joining Spurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015, Alderweireld has gone on to make 80 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.
Whether Spurs retain Alderweireld for the long-term could also depend on whether they manage to win major silverware in the near future.
