Liverpool reportedly handed huge boost in hopes of completing record breaking deal

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s £60million pursuit of Southampton Virgil van Dijk has received a huge boost as the Saints are now planning for the possibility of life without the centre-back.

The south coast club have reportedly identified Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer as a possible target once the need to replace Van Dijk arises.

Liverpool have endlessly been linked with the Dutch defender, but Southampton aren’t listening to offers, insisting the 26-year-old defender isn’t on the market.

Van Dijk has told the club he wants to leave, and his managerial team are hopeful of an eventual exit despite the Saints outright refusal to welcome offers.

Liverpool are ready to table a bid once Southampton give the green light.

Boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the Netherlands international, and he’s confident the former Celtic man can take the Reds’ defence to another level.

Van Dijk won’t come for cheap, though, and with cash-buoyant Chelsea

and Manchester City still interested in him, Liverpool have another big battle on their hands to land their man.
