Virgil van Dijk has reportedly informed new Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino that he wishes to leave the club to join Liverpool and has been training alone for days.
Upon being appointed as manager of the club, one of Pellegrino’s first tasks was to handle the van Dijk situation and he has now admitted that the player wishes to leave the club.
Liverpool are keen on luring the 26-year-old van Dijk but will have to be cautious in their attempts, especially given that they have been forced to apologize to the Saints after being found guilty by the football authorities of trying to tap up the player.
Should Liverpool be willing to complete the signature of the Dutch international, they will be required to spend heavily and likely pay a fee of higher than £65 million. The Reds also still have RB Leipzig star Naby Keita on their radar ahead of next season.
