This Thursday, July 20, 2017 (5:15 AM Pacific) Borussia Monchengladbach will play Leeds United in Schwaz, Austria for a friendly match. Both teams will be looking to improve on their performances last season for a successful 17-18 season.
Borussia Monchengladbach had a very disappointing 16-17 season finishing in ninth, after qualifying for Champions League football a season before that. The German team will not have a full squad for this game as they also have a game against the French side, Nice a few hours after this game. Some of the biggest signings for The Borussians this offseason has been additions to solidify the defense with players like Matthias Ginter, Timothée Kolodziejczak and Reece Oxford coming into the club.
These signings along with the already potent offense the team has with players like Thorgan Hazard, Raffael and Lars Stindl should make Gladbach a force in the Bundesliga. It is unclear what players will be used in this game but at least a few of Gladbach’s notable players should feature in the game and make for a hard-fought duel against an interesting opponent.
Leeds United had a solid 16-17 season, finishing in seventh, just missing out on the Championship playoffs by five points. Thomas Christiansen has had a very busy offseason bringing in several players to try and compete for promotion in this upcoming season. Among the most notable additions are the German goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen, the Polish midfielder Mateusz Klich from FC Twente and the Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita coming in from Newcastle United.
These will be among the most intriguing players to keep an eye on in this game along with the Swedish defender Pontus Jansson and the striker Chris Wood, who led the Championship with 27 goals last season. The match could prove to be a tremendous test for The Whites but should be a contested clash between two potent teams.
