Aberdeen wants Gary Mackay-Steven as their next addition for the upcoming season, according to the BBC.

At first, the Dons wanted Mackay-Steven on loan but the Scottish Premiership has a rule which prevents that one club from having more than one player on loan from the same club.

It is why they have started negotiating about the permanent transfer of Celtic winger at Pittodrie Stadium. The 26-year-old appeared only 10 times for the Hoops during the previous season without scoring a single goal.

Since he joined the club from Parkhead in 2014, Mackay-Steven played 56 matches and scored 10 goals. Prior to his time with Celtic, he played four seasons with Dundee United, where he scored 27 goals in 131 games.  On one occasion during that period he appeared for the Scottish national team, and that happened in 2013.

Mackay-Steven would become a valuable signing for Aberdeen, who is starting their European season in just one day. The Dandies will play against Siroki Brijeg (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the Europa League qualifications.
