New Aston Villa signing John Terry has revealed that playing against Chelsea would have been too difficult and as a result, decided to move down to the Championship.
The 36-year-old Terry ended his 22 year spell with the Blues at the end of last season and joins Championship outfit Villa on a one year deal.
Due to the experience of the England captain, he would have surely attracted interest from Premier League clubs and was reportedly a target of Bournemouth and West Ham.
However he has since revealed that playing against his former club would have been too difficult a task which has influenced his decision to join Villa over other clubs.
He said, “The mental side of playing against Chelsea was too much to kind of get over for me. It was 22 years and I am very proud of that, I wish Chelsea well next season but now my thoughts are 100 per cent here. I am delighted to be here as a player.”
