West Ham reportedly fail to sign duo despite club-record bids

According to The Metro, West Ham have launched two unsuccessful bids as their £22million offers for Anthony Modeste and Cedric Bakambu have been rejected.

In an effort to turn their attention away from Olivier Giroud, West Ham have focused on signing two attackers who impressed over the course of last season.

Playing for Cologne in Germany, Modeste managed to score 27 goals in 31 appearances. Similarly, Cedric Bakambu scored 12 goals in 33 games for Villarreal in Spain.

However, both clubs have rejected the initial offers, and it is reported that Cologne wants as much as £35 million for the 30-year-old Frenchman.

Manager Slaven Bilic is looking for ways to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season, and one of these two strikers could become a fine addition to the squad.

At the same time, the transfer saga with Giroud is far from over, and we could expect some surprising twists on that front as well.
