Ben Gibson was one of Boro’s standout players last season yet he saw his team relegated to the Championship. His performances have attracted the interest of several clubs from the Premier League and Championship alike.
The £20 million-rated defender was linked to Jurgen Klopp’s side but Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has pivoted and plans to keep his key players at the Riverside, especially Gibson.
He said, “It’s important to keep your best players and Ben is one of our most important players. It’s crucial we keep him. He is a big focal point for this club and team.
“It’s important to keep a core group together and give yourself the best opportunity of reaching the club’s ambition — a Premier League return.”
Gibson won’t be able to displace Dejan Lovren or Matip from the first team but would have addedd the defensive reinforcement Liverpool require to keep up with all the competitions they will participate in for the upcoming season.
