This Saturday, June 10, 2017 (9:00 AM Pacific) Slovenia will host Malta at the Stozice Stadium in a UEFA World Cup qualifier. Both teams are in the contested Group F of the qualifiers and should give a hard-fought encounter.
Slovenia has been doing surprisingly well in this Group F of the competition, currently in third place with eight points. The Central European side is coming off a tough loss to Scotland but before that did manage to defeat Malta by a slim score of 1-0. Head coach, Srečko Katanec does count with a talented squad with players like Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, Josip Ilicic of Fiorentina and Robert Beric of Saint-Etienne. The Slavic side should be able to come out on top in the encounter and deliver an entertaining match in front of its home crowd.
Malta has been one of the worst teams in this Group F of the qualifying stage, currently bottom of the group with no points. The Islanders have lost all games in the competition and have been dominated, having only scored two goals and conceded 13. Most of the players on Malta’s squad do play domestically but there are a few exceptions like the 18-year-old, Myles Beerman who plays with Rangers in Scotland. The game should be an intriguing one even if Slovenia is the clear favorite and the counter should be hard-fought.
