This Friday, June 9, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) Andorra will host Hungary at the Estadi Nacional d’Andorra in a UEFA 2018 World Cup Qualifying match. Both teams are in Group B of the competition and need the three points from the encounter.
Andorra is already disqualified from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with only one point after five matches in the qualifiers. The Southwestern European team has been outscored 13-1 in these qualifiers and its only point came in its last game against the Faroe Islands. Most of Andorra’s players do play domestically in a league with not much footballing tradition and there are few players on the roster who militate in Spain’s lower divisions. Andorra does not have many exciting players on the roster like Hungary does have but perhaps the home-field advantage will motivate the principality side to get a favorable result.
Hungary has been doing well in the World Cup qualifiers, currently in third place with seven points. The Central European side lost its last game in the qualifiers, 3-0 to Portugal but before that defeated Andorra 4-0 and Latvia 2-0. Hungary does have a good mix of experienced and younger talented players like 16-year-old, Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Salzburg. The game should be one that Hungary can win but should still prove to be a hard-fought encounter.
