Newcastle United face blow in their hopes of signing 34-time capped international

According to reports, Newcastle United are set to miss out on the signature of Pepe Reina after the veteran goalkeeper said that he will stay with current club Napoli until the end of his contract.

Reina’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon told Calciomercato.com, “Pepe will stay at Napoli until the end of his contract. Certain issues have nothing to do with what happens on the pitch and do not interest us. He is staying at Napoli until 2018.”

Napoli and Reina reportedly held a meeting on Thursday, where the future of the Spanish international goalkeeper was discussed.

While the Serie A club were not offering the 34-year-old Reina a new deal, the Magpies were said to be offering him a two year deal.

This news however, should not come as a huge disappointment to fans of the Magpies. The goalkeeping department is one in which fans of the club do not need to worry as they have three very experienced goalkeepers in Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and Tim Krul all vying for their first choice position.
