HITC have reported that some fans of Tottenham Hotspurs would be happy if the club were to re-sign veteran striker Jermain Defoe.
In January manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Defoe had asked the club to train with them whilst contracted to Toronto FC.
Defoe had hoped to keep his fitness levels high as he unsuccessfully tried to win a place in England’s 2014 World Cup squad. However Pochettino did admit earlier in the year that he has been impressed by the 34-year-old’s performances for struggling Sunderland
“When he was back from Toronto, he asked to train here to keep his fitness,” he said to The Sun. “That moment wasn’t a situation to consider signing him — then he moved to Sunderland and now he’s doing a fantastic job.”
Should Sunderland be relegated, Defoe may be able to be snapped up for free. He may also be a good signing for Spurs as he will provide good support for Harry Kane and his presence could benefit younger players in the squad.
