Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has said that his team have not given up hope of catching up with Chelsea and winning the Premiership this season, though he admits that it will be a very difficult task.
Speaking about the prospect, Vertonghen said, “We’re trying to catch Chelsea, but it will be very hard. They look very strong at the moment and you have to be realistic. But it could be a good couple of weeks for us.”
Spurs are currently ten points behind the leaders, who are seemingly destined for the title this season judging by the confidence they are displaying at this point in time.
Spurs, however will have a good opportunity to reduce the points gap after the international break as they play against four sides who are in the bottom half of the table.
Chelsea will also face off against both Manchester giants during that time. Vertonghen is a key member of the Spurs squad with the North London side winning each of the five matches he has participated in.
