Liverpool are ready to compete with Arsenal and Manchester United for 25 year old Roma center back Kostas Manolas, according to a report from the Daily Star. The report states that the Greek international could be sold for a fee of approximately £35m.
Manolas has been one of Roma’s better players, as he is averaging 2.3 interceptions per game and 5.8 clearances per game this season. He is also very strong in the air (2.5 aerial challenges won per match) and is a competent passer (85.7% pass accuracy).
Liverpool have conceded for goals than any other EPL team in the top 7 so far this season, so they could certainly use some help at center back. If Manolas was acquired, he would likely get significant playing time, and he could help sure up the team’s defensive weaknesses.
Manolas currently has two years remaining on his contract, but he is expected to leave Roma at the end of the season. It seems likely that Roma will sell the defender, but with major clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United also interested, Liverpool may end up being outbid in their pursuit for this talented center back.
