Tottenham goalkeeper Pau Lopez has returned to former and technically still parent club Espanyol, after being given some time off by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Mundo Deportivo have reported that Lopez had returned to his former team’s training centre to revisit old team mates. He will have fond memories of the club, having joined the club as a 12-year-old and spending a large amount of time growing up there.
Upon realizing that his chances of first team football would be limited under Quique Sanchez Flores, Lopez opted to join Spurs on loan – though the deal is expected to be made permanent during the summer.
The visit to his former club was just social and has no bearing on his future. Lopez will have to work hard in order to try and challenge Tottenham captain and current first choice keeper Hugo Lloris for his place. For now, Lloris looks ideal to retain the spot for many years to come.
