Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld is set to renew his contract with the club, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The Belgians current contract comprises of a clause that will allow teams wanting him to trigger a release clause in 2019 which would allow him to be released for £25 million with one year left on his contract and which would be a bargain for a player of Alderweireld’s caliber.
The new contract Alderweireld is about to sign is a lot less complicated and will be a five year deal with a salary of £75,000-a-week with no release clauses involved.
It comes as no surprise that Spurs have decided to offer the defender a contract extension. He has formed a formidable partnership with Jan Vertonghen in central defence, which has been instrumental in Tottenham’s rise over the past two years.
The commitment of Alderweireld’s future to the club certainly will be a boost to their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title going forward.
