In Week 27 of the French Ligue 1, Guingamp will host Monaco at the Stade de Roudourou this Saturday, February 25, 2017 (8:00 AM Pacific). Both teams have faced each other twice this season, with a 2-2 draw and a 2-0 win for Monaco, both encounters at the Stade Louis II.

The young core at Monaco is looking to keep its lead over OGC Nice and Paris Saint Germain, after this week 27 of Ligue 1 play. At this point of the season, all points are vital and a loss for Monaco can go a long way for other title contenders. The principality side is of course coming from a tough midweek Champions League match against Manchester City. The game ended in a 5-3 loss at the Etihad Stadium with two goals from captain, Radamel Falcao and one by 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe Lottin. Before that loss in the Champions League, Leonardo Jardim’s men were coming from a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bastia in week 26 of the Ligue 1.

Of course, the Stade Armand Cesari is always a tough place to travel, so the result was not half bad. The lone goal-scorer of the game for Monaco in Bastia was Bernardo Silva, who put away his sixth goal of the Ligue 1 campaign. The first match-up between the two teams was in week 1 of the competition. The game ended in a 2-2 draw with a goal from Fabinho at the penalty-spot and a goal from Bernardo Silva. It will be interesting to see how Monaco does after its midweek clash against Manchester City.

Guingamp has had a run of bad form as of late losing three of its last four games. Most recently falling 3-0 against Bordeaux away from home. Guingamp has struggled to score all season really, but more so recently, being shutout in those three recent losses. The last victory for the northwestern French team came in week 25 of the competition, beating Lyon 2-1 at the Stade de Roudourou. Mustapha Diallo and Nicolas Benezet providing the goals for Antoine Kambouare’s side. Guingamp will of course also be without defender, Jonathan Martins Pereira after he received two yellow cards in last week’s loss to Bordeaux.

Antoine Kambouare will need to rely heavily on Christophe Kerbrat in defense for this game and on Yanis Salibur and Jimmy Briand going forward. Captain, Jimmy Briand was absent in last week’s encounter against Bordeaux due to a suspension, which made a huge difference in the game. Antoine Kambouare and company will be delighted to have him back in the lineup especially against front-runners, Monaco. Guingamp should be able to cause problems for Monaco in this game, especially at home, but it will be a tough encounter for the mid-table team.
