In one of the biggest mismatches of this week 5 of the Clausura 2017 Copa Corona MX, Dorados de Sinaloa will host Monterrey at the Estadio Banorte this Tuesday, February 21, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). The first match between the two sides in week 3 of the competition resulted in a 5-0 bashing in favor of the ‘rayados’ at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.
The Dorados are one of the few teams in the Copa MX that is yet to win, having lost to FC Juarez twice and 5-0 to Monterrey. Gabriel Caballero’s main focus seems to be in the Ascenso MX, where the team is finding success yet again in sixth place with 15 points. Sinaloa is the current champion of the Ascenso MX and is a favorite to achieve promotion. This team can be a force, especially at home but it is yet to be seen in the Copa Corona MX.
The Dorados have only lost once at home in the Ascenso MX competition this Clausura and will look to continue their run of form. Gabriel Caballero’s side have also not seen defeat in their last four encounters in the Ascenso MX. Sinaloa do have some interesting players on its roster like Christian Lara, Fernando Arce’s son, and Jose ‘el chema’ Cardenas.
Antonio Mohamed has shown that he does see the Copa MX as a priority equivalent to the Liga MX competition, utilizing some of his best players in the competition. Some of the standout players the Argentine manager has used include Cesar Montes, Edwin Cardona, Rogelio Funes Mori and Dorlan Pabon. With an important game against Club Tijuana on Friday however, it is unlikely that Mohamed will use some of his best players in this match. Even if the ‘regios’ do not use many starters, they should still be able to get the victory at the Estadio Banorte in front of a large crowd.
