Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has praised team-mate Harry Winks for the “unbelievable” progress he has made since last season.
“He had a very good game against Gent [last week’s first leg], obviously the result wasn’t very good,” Vertonghen told the Spurs website. “If you see how he improved in the last couple years it is unbelievable.”
The 21-year-old has only managed to make two starts in total for Maucio Pochettino’s men. However his remarkable progress this season was demonstrated as he made his 27th appearance of the season as Spurs defeated Fulham 3-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Wink’s impressed alongside Victor Wanyama and his performance may even earn him a place in the Spurs squad that takes on Gent during the second leg of the North London clubs Europa League tie at White Hart Lane on Thursday.
If Winks continues his rapid progress, he is certain to be a first team regular for Spurs by next season.
