Everton suffer blow in their hopes of top six finish

Everton suffered a blow in their attempts to reach the top six of the English Premier League after they suffered a goalless draw against struggling Middlesbrough.

The Toffees would have been hopeful of achieving something positive from the game after thrashing Bournemouth 6-3 last weekend.

However the Middlesbrough defence managed to contain them on the day and Victor Valdez’s impressive display on the day served to savage a draw for the Boro.

The former Barcelona shot stopper successfully negotiated a one on one situation with in form striker Romelu Lukaku during the first half. He also twice denied youngster Ademola Lookman.

The draw extends Everton’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight games. However after Manchester United won against Watford, they now lose two valuable points in the race to claim a top six finish.

The Merseyside club now head to Dubai for a break before taking on last placed Sunderland in two weeks time.
