It was a day of silence and reflection for Rangers manager Mark Warburton on transfer deadline day as he was allowed to do little but watch Sky Sports Live as the madness unfolded elsewhere. In serious need of further investment to his squad, Warburton’s needs would not be answered.
He only took a photo with backup goalkeeper signing Jak Alnwick and had an interview. Looking relieved and resigned, Warburton said “we’re spectators now,” before declaring that no other industry “has this mayhem.” Warburton is absolutely right there.
The Rangers boss has had a hard time getting deals done in the last year. He’s had to go to friends Eddie Howe and Arsene Wenger to beef up his midfield with American Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral. Now, he’s sweating on whether or not the club’s board will resign key players as well.
As the power struggle continues, Rangers fans and Warburton himself, will be hoping and praying that they can continue to hang on to second in the league. It would be a cruel blow for it to slip away after so much hard work.
