Report: Newcastle and Swansea battle to sign African winger from Premier League

According to reports from the Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are set to battle to sign Swansea winger Modou Barrow.

The Newcastle Chronicle has claimed that the Championship heavyweights are looking to sign the player on loan. It is suggested that a transfer for the 24-year-old who has a £5 million release clause on his contract is imminent.

However, Newcastle face stiff competition from Aston Villa. The Villians are also reportedly interested in Swansea forward Jordan Ayew, meaning that a swap deal between Villa and Swansea could be on the cards.

Barrow joined Swansea from Swedish club Ostersunds in 2014. He has made 51 appearances for the Premier League strugglers but is said not to be part of the plans of manager Paul Clement.

Barrow will definitely be a good addition to the Newcastle or Villa team as he will be able to provide them with Championship experience. He had loan stints with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn in the second tier in 2015.
