Tottenham receive £8m bid for defender- Report

According to reports from Mirror, Tottenham have turned down an £8 million bid for defender Ben Davies from Crystal Palace. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is reported to have turned down the offer with the backing of chairman Daniel Levy. This was a good move by Spurs especially considering that they will be without centre-back Jan Vertonghen for three months.

The Wales international Davies can operate on the left side of a three man defense as well as giving wing-back cover to first choice Danny Rose.  According to Pochettino, the 23 year old’s versatility is key to his available defensive options at Spurs.

This will certainly be a disappointment to Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce who was looking to make defensive reinforcements to help Palace avoid relegation this season. However, with this deal now impossible, he will have to look elsewhere. The bid for Davies came after a failed bid for Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson and reports now suggest that Palace will attempt to sign former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
