In a move that didn’t take nearly as long as some other moves in this window have taken, Jose Fonte will happily be moving to West Ham for a reported fee of £8m (according to Sky Sports). This will now, or so the theory goes, allow Southampton to concentrate on getting results on the pitch.
It’s been a tough month or so for the Saints who are struggling in front of goal at the moment, and it wouldn’t have helped to see that their captain had asked for a way out of the South Coast club. He’s gotten that way now via West Ham United.
Southampton are able to recoup a decent fee for an aging player (33) years old that should help them in their search for either a replacement center back or an attacking threat.
West Ham bolster a defence that has become leaky of late with a stop-gap signing in the form on Fonte. This is good business for both sides as they each had to quickly resolve their issues.
