Everton and Chelsea are in a battle to sign Franck Kessie from Atalanta, according to Goal. Everton have reportedly stolen a march in the lead to sign him by making a £15 million bid which was rejected. Should Ronald Koeman want to land the highly sought after player, he will have to up his bid.
It has been reported that Atalanta are demanding £30 million for the player though both Chelsea and Everton are only willing to fork out £22 million.
It has also been reported that Manchester United are also monitoring the youngster while Atalanta’s Serie A rivals Juventus are no longer interested.
Chelsea will need to find reinforcements for their midfield after the departures of John Obi-Mikel and Oscar to China. After a loan spell with Cesena last season, Kessie has impressed by becoming a regular first team player for Atalanta. During this seasons Serie A, he has scored 6 goals and boasts 2 assists.
Given the massive reports linking Kessie with a move away from Atalanta, it is likely that he will leave, probably during the summer. It is likely that Chelsea’s history and current status in world football is likely to appeal to him more, though Everton can never be discounted especially as the appeal of the youthful side may appeal to him.
