Chelsea agree a deal for 23-year-old attacker

It is understood (via Telegraph journalist John Percy) that Patrick Bamford, who was recently recalled by Chelsea on loan from Burnley, is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough.

Bamford is in search for greener pastures after his unsuccessful loan spell at Turf Moor, which was his third consecutive one in the space of one-and-a-half year. During his time with Burnley, Bamford only managed to record 33 minutes of first team action.

Nonetheless, he did enjoy success with Middlesbrough during his loan stint with the club and was named Championship player of the year in 2014-15.

Bamford’s stint with Middlesbrough was perhaps the highlight of his career thus far as he scored 19 goals. His last professional goal was also for Boro against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April 2015.

The transfer fee is thought to be £6 million upfront but will include plenty of add on fees which will place the final price at around £10 million.

Bamford joined Chelsea in 2012 for £1.5 million as a highly rated young prospect from Nottingham Forest. During his five years with the club, he had loan spells with MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley.
