Liverpool enjoyed a wonderful 2016 under Jurgen Klopp but 2017 has not gotten off to the best of starts for the Reds, having failed to claim a single victory since the turn of the year.
Despite the slump though, Liverpool are going strong on all three fronts at the moment and it is just a matter of time before the Reds return back to winning ways.
Up next for Liverpool is a clash against fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford and it is a game which the Reds will be looking to win at all costs, even without taking their title challenge into consideration.
Here is the strongest possible Liverpool lineup for the clash against Manchester United –
Goalkeeper
Simon Mignolet has been solid since being reinstalled as the Liverpool number one and despite Loris Karius’ decent performances in the cup, it is widely expected that the Belgian international will be starting against United this weekend.
Defence
Ragnar Klavan has looked very shaky in recent matches and as a result, Jurgen Klopp will most likely look to rush back Joel Matip into the starting lineup in central defence alongside Dejan Lovren for the clash on Sunday. If Matip is not fit in time though, Klavan is likely to be handed another start.
Nathaniel Clyne and James Milner have been a very solid full-back combination and the two are expected to continue in the lineup at Old Trafford as well.
Midfield
Jordan Henderson is struggling with a heel problem ahead of the encounter and his participation for the clash remains in doubt at the moment. Lucas Leiva is the most likely option if Henderson misses out.
Klopp will surely try to get Henderson fit in time for the match while the duo of Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can look certain to be starting.
Attack
Klopp usually tends to start with Roberto Firmino in big matches and the Brazilian international is expected to be leading the line for Liverpool on Sunday as well, meaning the duo of Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge will have to do with a place on the bench.
Adam Lallana will be looking to continue his fine run of form in the wings and Philippe Coutinho is likely to be handed a return following a long injury lay-off, especially as Sadio Mane is unavailable due to his participation in the African Cup of Nations.
